ethan update

ethan is up to 5lbs 3 3/4oz.  he took 20cc of milk from a bottle today but really wore out quickly...a great start though.  he was really gulping it down...sometimes a little too quickly and he would hold his breath or get chocked up and his stats would drop, but he would recover.

poor guy also had an eye exam yesterday...more like mid-evil torture device...reminded me a lot of a clockwork orange when they put him in that device to hold his eyelids open.  he screamed and screamed...heart wrenching.  things showed that he has a few blood vessel abnormalities behind his eyes but it isn't in a spot that could impair vision.  the doctor said it is normal to see these in a preemie that was born at his gestational age...and usually they get better but first get a little worse.  he said there was a zero percentage chance that it would get so bad that his vision would be effected.  worse case is he would have to have a surgery down the road to do everything possible to ensure his vision would not be effected.  we are not concerned and feel that like his heart murmur....totally normal for his premature gestational age at birth and will self-rectify in time.  we will continue to keep an eye on these things though and hope that he will be home in a couple of weeks.  fingers crossed.
